“Trump’s threat to enforce emergency laws against the Minnesota protests.”

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to invoke an emergency law that would allow the domestic deployment of the military.

Protests erupted across Minnesota following two incidents: the shooting and injury of a man by federal agents on Wednesday, and the killing of a woman last week.

The report was published by the AFP news agency.

In the northern city, known as a stronghold of the Democrats, demonstrators condemned the violence linked to Trump’s large-scale immigration raids.

Trump reiterated his threat on his social media platform to use a 19th-century law—the Insurrection Act—to suppress what he described as an uprising. The law has not been invoked for more than 30 years.

In a post on social media on Thursday, Trump wrote, “If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota do not uphold the law and fail to stop professional agitators and insurgents from attacking ICE’s patriotic personnel, I will invoke the Insurrection Act.”

Trump reacted angrily to protests and court rulings that he said were obstructing his efforts to deploy the National Guard, as he pushes forward with his anti-immigration agenda.

Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in a video posted on social media platform X late Wednesday night, accused federal agents of carrying out an “organized campaign of brutality against the people of Minnesota.”

He cited widespread acts of violence, including “smashing the windows of people’s homes, dragging pregnant women into the streets,” and the killing of 37-year-old Renee Goode on January 7.

Walz added, “We must protest forcefully and urgently—but peacefully.”

Appealing to Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, he said, “End this occupation. You have done enough.”
